Air Guitar Nation

By admin | January 26, 2008

One of the funniest films(it’s actually a documentary) I’ve seen in years.  Wow.  It’s LOL for sure.

This docu discusses the history of the air guitar championship in Finland and how the US finally got involved.  A good portion of the movie shows people jamming out in competition and it gets out of hand quickly.  Holy crap.  It was almost too much to handle towards the beginning so be careful.

Here is the movie site: http://www.airguitarnation.com/

Add it to your netflix queue today!

Hell scheduled to freeze over Feb 5th

By admin | January 26, 2008

Only 10 more days until the 2008 caucuses in Minnesota!! This election cycle started early in 2007 with a bunch of Democrats & Republicans announcing their candidacy. After months of national coverage, debates and a few caucuses/primaries it will finally be time for Minnesotans to weigh in on the candidates.

Now for the bombshell….and the reason hell is freezing over….I’m voting at the Republican caucus! Yep, that’s right. Liberal, tree-hugging, anti-war Ron is voting for the guys in Red this time around. Before you head right for the comments section to flame me, hear me out.

I’m supporting Ron Paul. He is not a neo-con like most of the other Republicans, he’s believes strongly in the constitution unlike most in Washington. Here are the 4 main reasons I’m supporting Ron Paul:

  1. Ron is Anti-war. Unlike the Democrats who claim to be, and announce all sorts of BS troop withdrawal plans, Ron will start pulling troops out soon after he’s elected. We can’t afford to have troops dying everyday in Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran (war tba soon I’m sure). This war spending is out of control and needs to be stopped ASAP.
    1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tZwRfGTxLs
  2. Ron will end the Federal Reserve. Most people don’t know that the Fed is a private banking institution, not part of the federal government. They basically give money to the US government, oh yea, with interest. How does that make any sense? Thomas Jefferson on central banking: “I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a moneyed aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. The issuing power (of money) should be taken away from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs.” So the Fed can decide to print more money, which devalues the dollars in circulation…aka inflation. Currently the dollar is only worth .04$ of the original 1$ because of inflation. Many suspect the dollar will be replaced by the “amero” as part of the North American Union formed by US, Canada, Mexico.

  3. He’s the only candidate (left) not completely full of crap. Listen to all of the candidates, Dems & Republicans, and you will hear promises, promises, crap, lies, crap, promises. Look at Ron’s record, he backs up his talk.
  4. ImWithRon, I mean come on…is it just coincidence? I think not. I AM with Ron!

I would love to hear what everyone has to say about this election. I’m sure I’m going to catch heat from this, mostly offline I know. But at least I’m participating in the process. :)

Door County WI

By admin | October 22, 2007

Last Wednesday Heidi and I took off on our long delayed honeymoon.  Our destination was Baileys Harbor, WI which is in Door county.  We had heard nothing but good things about Door county so we decided to find out ourselves what all the fuss was about.

For those who don’t know much about Door county there are a few basics….it’s located in the peninsula near Green Bay.  There are a ton of great sites which have travel info and reviews, but the this one is the best.   We looked about over 40 places to stay, some really nice, some crappy, and the place we picked: Black Smith Inn.  This bed and breakfast is a bit spendier than some places, but definitely worth it.  Our room had a balcony view of the harbor, whirlpool, and was overall had a cozy feel to it.

Bailey’s Harbor is pretty quiet and a nice place to come back to every night, but not much to do there.  Just a few shops to walk to.  There was one nice place to eat, the Restaurant Saveur (no site right now).  Three course menu with great sweet potato ravioli.

Most of the tourist action in Door county is in Fish Creek.   Tons of shops to visit, great restaurants.

Peninsula State Park was gorgeous this time of the year.  All the leaves were turning.  See the pictures link below.  Most of the nice outdoors pictures were taken there.

Egg Harbor also has great shops and restaurants as well as the only beer brewery in the county.  Shipwrecked is a bed/breakfast, restaurant & brewery.  The beer was kind of flat, so i was pretty disappointed.  Their food made up for it however.  The Bistro at the Liberty Square also had great food.  I had a fantastic walnut burger.  We also stopped at the Village Cafe for some excellent breakfast.  Being a huge french toast wonk, I had to try out their version.  WOW.

Here are the pictures.

Packers beat Vikings

By admin | October 2, 2007

This Sunday the Pack barely pulled off a victory in the dome to remain undefeated this year.  Pretty cool.

Favre passed Marino as all time touchdown pass thrower.  Pretty damn cool.

Rob, a vikings fan, had to wear a packer’s jersey and cheesehead hat because he had a big mouth before the game.  Friggin’ cool.

Sprint phones

By admin | September 23, 2007

I love Sprint’s service. Have for years. Few billing issues, great coverage in MN. However, I have wanted to upgrade my phone for awhile now and it’s been frustrating. Here is what I really need: a good phone wiht a decent camera which can transfer pictures to my puter.

My first trial was with the new HLC Mogul. It’s a cool phone. Only of the only Sprint phones with built-in WiFi. it’s got a 2.0 MP camera, Windows Mobile 6, mini-SD card, full QWERTY keyboard, etc. But it’s 300$, and you basically need the 15$/month sprint Vision pack to use all features. If you’re a super geek who needs access to Outlook, mobile office apps like excel, word, full keyboard…get this phone. It’s nice. But i’m not looking for all that shit right now, so I took it back. Oh, I had some issues with it. It wouldn’t save some of my preferences for notifications so I was bombarded with New Email notifications every 10 minutes. And surfing the web was kinda painful compared to the iPhone. It doesn’t come with flash installed, and I couldn’t figure out how to install flash in under 10 minutes on my laptop, so I gave up.

Quality Sunday Morning TV

By admin | September 23, 2007

Well, the quality is up to the viewer, but here’s my take on the Sunday morning TV shows.

I’m not a huge TV guy at all. But I’m a big fan of Sunday morning TV and news reading via internet. I usually drink half a pot of coffee while doing this. Back in my single days it was a bigger event where I had the luxury of investing even more time. ;)

Meet the press with Tim Russert - MUST SEE. This show is a great way to start of the week. Tim usually has extremely knowledgeable guests and interesting questions to ask him. This morning Hillary Clinton has bombarded with questions regarding her flip-flopping on the Iraq war. Tim pwned her with a few video clips and quotes showing her change in stance. Not 5 minutes after Hillary was off the show, Alan Greenspan was talking about his new book “The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World”. A co-worker of mine is having issues getting through this book because it was “boring”. I guess thinking about Alan Greenspan, former chairman of the Federal Reserve, it does seem like that book would be a snooze-fest, but after his interview I might pick up a copy. Russert pointed to a recent quote of Greenspan: “I think Bill Clinton was the best Republican president we’ve had in a while.” Greenspan responded by saying many of his stances on free trade, globalization, welfare reform and fiscal restraint coincided with Republican values versus Democratic. On a side note, Greenspan is married to Adrian Mitchell, a NBC reporter. They joked about the first date in which Greenspan brought Mitchell back to his apartment to read an essay he wrote about monopolies. Not a move i’ve ever heard about….

C-SPAN - Washington Journal. this show is too cool to miss out on. Always interesting debates, add live callers with stupid or smart comments, you have an entertaining show. Pretty much anything C-SPAN rocks though, not just WJ. Steve, you’ll understand some day.

Evangelical Religious Shows. How does this carry the quality theme? Entertainment, not content. I can’t help NOT to watch these shows. Today I was lucky enough to catch a local ministry hosted by Mac Hammond. This was spectacular. Mac and his wife Lynne seem to be 2 down to earth faithful folks trying to guide people in the right direction. While watching the show I googled “Mac Hammond” to find many, many accusations of IRS related issues. According to City Page the Living Word Christian Center’s annual report states the church collected $24,047,130 in contributions in 2005. I can’t seem to find the report anywhere on the internets. But, WOW, I’m in the wrong industry. This horse’s ass babbles on for an hour on Sundays and brings in $450,000. Dang G.

So morale of the story…check out TV on Sunday mornings next week with a tall cup of coffee and a computer. You’re missing out on some good stuff.

Airstream Park

By admin | September 22, 2007

Earl and Kathy Wolleat were off on another adventure this week.  This time it was a Airstream park, one of a few in the nation.  On Mother’s day, Earl bought Kathy a 19′ Pacer which is in stellar shape.  The inside is remodeled with Classic Coca-cola memorabilia, twin size bed, dining table, stove, toilet and more.  So Heidi, Earla, R.J., Brint and I headed to Clearwater to meet up with them in this truly unique park.

I’ve only seen a handful of Airstreams up until today when I saw 40-50 within a 1 mile radius.  This Airstream-only park off highway 10 has tons of cool amenities: swimming pool, golf course, horseshoes, tennis court, activity center, clubhouse, and WiFi!!!!!!!!!!!  Their site is kinda old school, but shows how sweet the facility is.  It’s a peaceful, quiet campground site with beautiful oaks surrounding every site.

I snapped a bunch of pics from my new Sanyo Katana II phone only to find out the bluetooth doesn’t send pictures….just business cards and contacts.  Oh well, back to the drawing board for a new phone…that’s a whole other post.

I LOVE Charter (not)

By admin | July 17, 2007

For the last week or so, our cable internet service has reached an all time low.  I’ve had enough with this asses so I decided to give Qwest DSL a try.  Box came in mail today, setup was ridiculously easy.  Their modems have built in wi-fi adapters and a router so it would be perfect if you don’t need lan connections.

The connection is okay, a little over 1MB.  Much less than the 2.5 I was getting with Charter, but at least I won’t have a week of no internet again.  Even our TV signal is bad now, looks worse than bunny ears on the major network channels.  Pathetic.

So long Charter, it’s been fun.  We can stay in touch via ilovecharterNOT.com.  I plan on getting this up for people to bitch about charter, god knows there are a million other unhappy customers out there.
